YMCA

YMCA is a youth and community based national Palestinian organization based in Jerusalem. The YMCA started in East Jerusalem after the division of the city in 1948 when access to the International YMCA on King David Street was terminated. Hence, the essence of this initiative was linked to the catastrophe that befell the Palestinian people and the emergence of the need to forge a dynamic and resilient civil society capable of dealing with its increasing challenges. The philosophy of the YMCA depends on intellectual, spiritual and physical development of individuals, fostering their voluntary and communal involvement in social, cultural and athletic activities.
